BRDC Journal : Chantique in Bella Notte

At 26th of March 2010, we were assigned to cover the performance of “Chantique”, which took place in Maranatha University Auditorium, Bandung. Chantique is a vocal and ensemble group of 6 people, based in Bandung. The group was quite new actually; established in 2009 under the umbrella of Sinfonia Music Entertainment.

We were quite eager to saw the performance since we heard many rumors that said so many positive things regarding this group. It turns out that we have the same thoughts with 400 (people) others. The auditorium was packed with audience. As usual, we were there amongst the first, just to capture minute-by-minute change of atmosphere as the audience started to build up.

With the formation of 4 vocals, 1 violinist, and 1 pianist, the group kicked the night with a song called “O mio Babbino Caro (oh my dear papa)”, a song in a Romeo and Juliet play, by William Shakespeare. But first, Luthfi Farabi entertained us with his opening solo guitar taken from Isaac Albeniz’s song, “Asturias”. We were enchanted by the harmonious performance of the group, as song by song played, and ended with “The Voice”, by Brendan Graham. 9 songs have been sung, and now, we were on a break; as they prepare the second half of the show.

“Cintaku, cintaku padamu, tak besar seperti dulu…” Yesss! It was ST-12’s song called “Cari Pacar Lagi” that kicks off the second half, performed by D’Chamber. After that, Chantique takes the center stage again with a song called “Over the Rainbow”, a popular song back in the late 30’s, a soundtrack from the movie The Wizard of OZ. We noticed that the songs in this half were a bit more popular and contemporary compared to the first half. Josh Groban’s “You Raised Me Up” closed the show; and the audience gave their high appreciation with a long applause as the group leaves the center stage.

It was quite a show; a combination of harmony, beauty, and skillful vocal technique, as we leave the room, felt 100% entertained for the night. Bravo Chantique!
